KITAGATA HOT SPRINGS HISTORY These are hot springs found in the western region of Uganda. They are believed to have healing powers in that people from all walks of life not only tour the area but also semi nude men and women bathe in the warm waters of Kitagata Mulago,some times as many as 200 in twenty-four-hour period. LOCATION The hot springs are located on the Ishaka Kagamba road in Sheema County, in Sheema District, Western Uganda. This location is approximately 2km by road, southeast of Kitagata town, one of the urban centers of the district. The location lies 62km west of Mbarara, the largest sub region. The coordinates of Kitagata hot springs are Latitude: 0.678346, Longitude: 30.160556.The road to this place is marrum and is located near a large swamp. The scenery to the site is breath taking with conical hills and inselbergs characterized with beautiful green vegetation of trees and trees. It is also next to River Ngaromwenda which supplies water to the spring’s floods in the rainy season.

HOT SPRING SCIENCE In physical science s, there is an explanation for the hot springs in the volcanic system around this area. Beneath the surface in areas like Kitagata, there is heat from the rocks or even magma way below the surface. When it meets any water above the ground, it heats it, leading to hot springs. The water on the surface seeps through cracks in the earth and results in steam. Sometimes water heats up to the boiling point. Any proven healing properties from the water could be from the mineral components found in the rocks, or from the heat and other psycho-therapeutic effects.
